Majolica tile from Triana
Very nice majolica tile in excellent condition, made in Triana, Seville. Very bright glaze, thumb mark to left side of the tile were the maker put his thumb in the wet clay before glazing the tile. Beatifull colours. Sides slightly cut, especially to back. Similar tile is in the Carranza collection and in the collection of the V&A museum, but not in this condition! You can find this tile in "La Iglesia de San Lorenzo" Sevilla, in a wall dated 1576 and another wall dated 1609. Tiles was also used in several other buildings in sevilla all build C 1600.
