Rare glazed tile with engobe decoration, 120 x 120 mm, coat of arms of Pierre de Nivelle, abbot of Cîteaux (1625-1635), from the Château de Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, Argilly workshop, Burgundy, France early 17th century. The arms of Gilly-lès-Cîteaux feature the crest of a golden hind with a cross or five-fingered star above. Good condition considering the age and function of floor tile. Good original patina with lots of original shinny surface glaze. The tile shows glaze wear and losses along the edges and surface, consistent with age and long use, giving it an authentic historic character.
