Four late medieval floor tiles

Four late medieval tiles decorated with a geometrical design forming a wheel, the outer two circles have teeth. Typical decoration of the department of Aisne in the north of france. This area has lots of good yellow and red clay to make tiles. This type of tiles was used a lot by the order of St. Augustine in amongst other places, Laon, Premontre and Etampes. Fine examples of tiles from this area can be seen at: L'église de La Chapelle-Monthodon. A book on tiles from Aisne department can be found online, "Etude sur le pavage emaille dans le department de L'aisne" by Edouard Fleury published in 1855. Mail me for a link to the book online. Provenance of these tiles is a French private collection. All tiles have been thoroughly cleaned by the previous owner and have the same signs to the back which I cannot identify. Tiles are in fair condition considering age, it is rare to find a set of four tiles!. some of the surface covered by origional glaze, surface is a bit uneven and two bottom tiles are missing some yellow clay in the design. Surface waer and chips to surface and sides. One tile glued.
