Rare and impressive antique Art Nouveau tile by Villeroy & Boch, Dresden, dating to circa 1905. This unusually large tile features a beautifully balanced stylised floral design in green and warm golden yellow against a rich reddish-brown ground. The strong symmetrical composition, flowing stems and highly stylised plant forms are characteristic of the Art Nouveau period. The tile is exceptionally well made using the dust-pressed technique, with crisp relief and beautifully controlled glazes that emphasise the flowing design. The reverse bears the VBD factory mark, identifying it as a Villeroy & Boch Dresden production. The tile remains in very attractive antique condition with light traces of age and use. There is some fine age-related crazing visible in areas of the glaze and minor surface and edge wear consistent with its age.
