A beautiful and highly decorative Art Nouveau ceramic tile by Villeroy & Boch, Dresden, dating from circa 1900. This striking tile features a wonderfully stylised symmetrical floral design, characteristic of the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau period. The flowing organic forms are executed in rich shades of blue, ochre, orange and soft green, creating a particularly attractive and harmonious composition. The tile was dust-pressed and relief-moulded, giving the decoration a pronounced three-dimensional quality. The coloured glazes beautifully emphasise the raised outlines and elegant curves of the design. The reverse is marked VBD for Villeroy & Boch Dresden.
