Highly decorative Art Nouveau tile that is characteristic of the style produced by S.O.F. (Sächsische Ofen- und Schamottewarenfabrik) in Meissen, Germany, around the turn of the 20th century. The tile showcases a striking stylized floral motif rendered in relief and enhanced by a beautiful polychrome glaze application. Dominating the center is a bold, sun-like flower, its petals radiating outward in a rich ochre or deep golden yellow, with a darker, brownish center. Behind the central flower, a strong cobalt blue crescent provides a dramatic, contrasting backdrop, making the yellow immediately pop. Below, the stalk and basal leaves merge into a deeper forest or moss green, completing the naturalistic yet highly ornamental composition. The tile appears to be in good antique condition, exhibiting the desirable fine crazing across the lighter glazed areas, which is typical for tiles of this age and production method, but the relief remains sharp and the colours are wonderfully preserved, presenting a magnificent example of German Jugendstil ceramic art.
