Extremely rare Art Deco tile made by MOPF, Meissen. Both the size of this tile and the decoration make it extremely rare. The cost was many times higher than a normal sized 6” square tile. The tiles were formed from plasic clay in a mold. I had a small collection of these tiles all from house “Hildegard” at Wittdün on the island of Amrum, Germany. This is the last one I have from this design. The tile is in very good condition with bright blue glaze, there are no glaze damages to the raised edges of the stylized decor with turtle in high relief. The last image shows an original sales catalog from this factory showing the tiles. The back rim has some damage.
