AN4367 Half tile in tubeline technique € 89.00

This is an elongated, rectangular Art Nouveau tile, unmistakably made in the tube-lining technique. This technique is characterized by the thick, raised lines of slip (clay slurry) that outline the design and compartmentalize the different coloured glazes, which is highly typical of English Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts tile production from manufacturers. The tile features a bold, vertical, and symmetrical floral motif, likely representing a stylized water lily or lotus blossom. The central flower is rendered in a creamy white or very pale green, contrasted by surrounding petals and foliage in various shades of cool blue-green and pale olive green. The bottom of the design is anchored by a deep ochre or brown band, above a knot of rich green, curvilinear stems. A high-gloss, dark reddish-brown glaze fills the background and forms the narrow border, making the vibrant colours of the central botanical form stand out intensely. The entire surface is glossy, and the glazes show the fine network of crazing often seen in tiles created using this method. The tile's vertical format strongly suggests it was intended to be used as part of a decorative border or vertical continuous frieze. Very good condiiton tile.
